Doug Eichten, former
President of Greater Public,
Receives 2017 PRRO Award

St. Paul, MN (September 27, 2017) – Development and marketing executive Doug Eichten, was honored as the recipient of the 2017 Public Radio Regional Organization’s PRRO Award during the Super-Regional Public Radio Meeting held in St. Paul, MN. Eichten was selected for his significant and enduring contributions that have advanced the growth of public media.

Eichten spent his entire career in marketing and sales. Early on, he worked at Public Radio International as an executive in the marketing, sales and development department. When Doug Eichten was hired to lead Greater Public, which was then known as the Development Exchange in 1997, he was the one and only employee. The organization was created with a vision to support public radio and television stations in their fundraising and marketing efforts. Turning that vision into reality fell to Eichten, who over time, gathered a professional staff and created a vast resource of expertise and services that have helped stations grow and prosper.

The mission to share knowledge and inspire stations to higher levels of achievement also led to the creation of the Public Media Development and Marketing Conference. The conference grew to become the largest in public broadcasting, annually bringing together over 1,000 development staff and station managers from around the nation. Many stations can point to Greater Public, and the work of this year’s PRRO award winner, as a vital element in their fundraising and marketing success.

In presenting the award, Public Radio in Mid America president Dan Skinner noted that, “There is much more one could say about this year’s recipient, but for many of us who have had the pleasure of knowing him over the years, perhaps the highest compliment we can pay him is to say that he is a genuinely nice guy… a class act… and our lives have been made brighter by him being in it.”

About the PRRO Award: The Public Radio Regional Organization (PRRO) award was established in 1987. It recognizes and honors someone who made significant and enduring contributions in advancing the growth of public media; may be considered an unrecognized or unsung hero; has furthered the interests of the regional  organizations and stations; and exemplifies qualities of leadership, commitment and service to public media.
