Hi everyone,

The dates suggested didn’t work well for many of you.

Please add this date to your schedule to participate with Mike and Gemma.
Their intent  is for these calls to become an integral part of their work
with stations in coming weeks and months.

Monday, February 6 at 3pm-4pmET/12noon-1pmPT

Stay tuned for logistical information for participating directly with Mike
and Gemma.

Please give me an indication back if  you or someone else at your station
can participate. If someone else should receive the call-in information,
let me know that, too.

I received favorable feedback about their recent meeting with east coast
stations.  The feedback was from stations, not from Mike and Gemma, for the
recordJ…

Thanks,

Frank

Subject: [areps] Update - Federal Funding & Station Engagement

Dear Colleagues:  Congressman Doug Lamborn, R – Colorado 5th Congressional
District, will soon introduce two separate pieces of legislation:  the
first proposes to eliminate funding for the Corporation for Public
Broadcasting; and the second proposes to prohibit the use of federal funds
by public radio stations to buy programming or pay membership dues to NPR.
This legislation mirrors previous proposals by the Congressman in past
legislative sessions.

While these are serious legislative proposals, by themselves, they have no
current effect on federal funding for public broadcasting stations. I’ll
keep you advised of any action on this or other matters impacting the
financial health of public broadcasting.

Please continue your local efforts to build support for your stations.
Gemma Hooley, Vice President for Member Partnership, and I have begun a
regular series of Washington Update webinars organized through the four public
radio regional organizations.  We held our first conversation yesterday
with members of ERPM.  Please look for announcements from your regional
organization for future webinar times and dates. Please also remember
the Community
Voices resources
https://www.nprstations.org/nationalaffairs/advocacy.cfm available
to you on nprstations.org, which are designed to help you build local
voices of support.

We are also working with our public television colleagues to strengthen Protect
My Public Media http://protectmypublicmedia.org/ so that it remains a
powerful resource for your use.  Our most recent initiative is built around
an audience and supporter testimonial called Resolve
http://protectmypublicmedia.org/tell-resolve/.  I encourage you to
explore this new asset as a way to boost support for your station.

Call or email if you have questions, suggestions or concerns.

Many thanks,

Mike
